Character's Background: When she was a small child, Cassie needed surgery to repair a heart defect. However, the doctor that was to perform the surgery was kidnapped (a common theme in her life). Her father, a former criminal, stole PYM particles to save her. This action propelled him into the life of a superhero, and consequently eliminated any chance Cassie had for anything resembling a normal life. She has never blamed her father for this, and even stole his PYM particles in an attempt to be like him. Despite her parents’ divorce, Cassie remained close with her father until his death.
Cassie has hated her mother for taking away from her father, and hates her step-father even more for his contempt for anything related to super heroes. After various kidnappings and even attempted murders, Cassie convinced her overbearing and protective mother to let her take self-defense lessons. The knowledge helped her to rebuild her confidence but she still suffers from feelings of insecurity, exacerbated by her emotionally abusive mother and step-father.
Instead of running away from her family as planned, Cassie tracked down the Young Avengers with Kate Bishop’s help and joined them. Cassie held a strong affinity for Kate since they met. She also held an equally strong attraction to Iron Lad, only bolstered by his persistence in resisting his fate and determination to become a super hero instead of a super villain. Cassie is still having trouble accepting the fact that her first love has turned into a psychotic killer, and feels guilty for placing her feelings for Kang onto Vision, who is, as even he admits, not Iron Lad.
Character's Personality: While good natured and loyal, Cassie is full of anger and hurt from the many troubles in her life, though she does her best to hide it (aside from her unintended size shifting). But it would be a mistake to dismiss her as a typical angst-ridden teenager. Cassie is determined to live up to her father’s legacy as a person and as a super hero.
